CEUs for Social Workers, RNs, CALAs, and LNHAs
Cultural diversity in American society and, indeed, the world, has been acknowledged with increased frequency over the past several decades. This seminar is a direct response to the challenges facing long term care professionals who are broadening their skill sets in cultural competence and ethical conduct essential for effective response to this diversity. The course is designed for Social Workers, Case Managers and other professionals who work with the elderly in the long-term care setting. Practice Level: Beginning to Intermediate. Method of Delivery: Face to Face.
Objectives of this course:
- Examine aspects of cultural and racial diversity.
- Identify 5 core ethical standards of serving seniors based on the values of cultural diversity and cultural competencies.
- Apply 2 basic interviewing and helping skills that reflect recognition of social and economic injustice and respect for social and cultural diversity. Identify cultural diversity models.
- Examine personal beliefs and values to enhance ethical considerations in working with a culturally diverse population.
- Identify public resources to enhance multicultural understanding.
This course is approved by the Association of Social Work Boards – ASWB NJ CE Course Approval Program Provider #13. Course #1478 from 06/23/2017 to 06/23/2019. Social workers will receive the following type and number of credit(s): Ethics 1.5 and Cultural Competence 1.5.
Longtree and Associates, provider #1208, is approved as a provider for social work continuing education by the Association for Social Work Boards (ASWB) through the Approved Continuing Education Program. Your presenter Heidi Schnapp, CSW,CWP,CCM is in private practice working with a geriatric base. Heidi has a keen understanding of the ethical issues confronting the culturally-diverse elderly population in the long term care setting, as well as the legal and ethical issues concerning advanced care planning for end-of-life care. Heidi has also worked with clients facing physical, mental & emotional challenges including bullying, obesity, addiction and cultural sensitive issues.
