Crane’s Mill Health Center Receives 5-Star Rating
Searching for a healthcare facility that provides five-star care in skilled nursing and sub-acute rehab just became easier for residents of the West Essex area.
Last month, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) awarded this highest rating, Five-Star, to the skilled nursing and sub-acute rehab units of the Crane’s Mill Health Center, located in West Caldwell.
CMS created the Five-Star Quality Rating System to help individuals, families and caregivers compare nursing homes more easily, and to identify key areas related to the quality of care. Key areas include: recent health inspections, staffing ratios, and quality measures, which encompass 11 essential areas. Those facilities that have achieved a 5-star rating are considered to deliver a quality of care significantly above average.
The Crane’s Mill Health Center consists of 132 beds, 66 of which are designated to provide skilled nursing and sub-acute care. The sub-acute rehab area of Crane’s Mill accepts direct admissions from hospitals and medical centers for Medicare beneficiaries who require short-term care. The patient does not have to live at Crane’s Mill. The remaining beds are assigned to studio apartments in the assisted living and memory care units of the Crane’s Mill Health Center.
According to Mercy Gonzales, RN, CDP, CALA, LNHA, Administrator, “Achieving a Five-Star Quality Rating is the goal of every long-term nursing facility. This award is the result of incredible teamwork from all our various areas, including admissions, rehab, nursing, housekeeping, dietary, recreation, and all ancillary areas. I’m so proud to head up this incredible team.”
