Power, Warmth and Good Conversation Make Crane’s Mill a ‘Post-Sandy’ Haven

Towne Square is providing our residents’ families with a safe, warm place to ‘recharge their batteries.’

Over the past few days, many in Northern New Jersey have been without power. As temperatures have dropped, the fireplaces in Towne Square have seen many pairs of feet snuggling nearby for warmth.

In fact, Towne Square at Crane’s Mill is quickly becoming a meeting place for friends and family members of our residents and staff seeking heat, electricity and of course, friendly conversation and a few laughs. The heat is on, the lights are shining and the good times are rolling.

Nearby family members and friends have taken some much-needed time away from homes without power to visit our home. They’ve had a chance to get warm, charge their cell phones and catch up with their Crane’s Mill loved ones who have ridden out the storm and its aftermath without missing a beat.

Another popular reason to visit? Free Wi-Fi. Thanks to our servers staying up and running, people have been able to keep in touch with family and friends through email and social media.

Wednesday was Halloween, so the marketing team presented a ‘resident social’ to celebrate, complete with costumes, hot apple cider, cocoa and donuts. There was even ‘reverse trick-or-treating’ as staff handed out candy to residents and guests in Towne Square. One resident’s lucky grandson also happened to be on-hand—needless to say, he got his fair share of treats!

Later, dinner was served at The Candleberry Dining Room. Many of our residents invited guests to join them for a meal that was truly a luxury during this trying time. A bonus? There’s never a wait for a table.

Residents are now gearing up for afternoon dance class in Hinman Hall and, like every Thursday, Happy Hour in the Cherry Blossom Lounge.

We are so lucky at Crane’s Mill that our power was back up and running just hours after Sandy. While the electricity was out, backup generators powered our essential services and meals were provided thanks to our excellent dining services team. Maintenance, housekeeping, nursing and administrative personnel kept everyone happy, healthy and secure.

Many of our friends and relatives are still without power or out and about waiting on gas lines to fill up their tanks or generators. Please know that for those who can’t make it over to Towne Square, we are keeping you in our thoughts and hope that any damage to your home was minimal and that things are back to normal very quickly.
