Today is National Vanilla Ice Cream Day!

Today we celebrate the go-to flavor for ice cream lovers everywhere! Here’s the scoop on this fun holiday:

Chocolate is too obvious. Pistachio is too green. Rum Raisin is too alliterative. That’s why today, we celebrate the smooth, straightforward, stalwart ice cream flavor of choice of millions: vanilla.

Vanilla ice cream is rumored to be created, or at least made popular, by our third president Thomas Jefferson. Having picked up the recipe in France, Jefferson brought the indulgence with him to the new colonies and the rest, as they say, is history. While this may or may not be a bonafide fact, it is fun to give credit to a founding father of our country to also have founded this sweet churned treat.

How will you celebrate National Vanilla Ice Cream Day–with a cup, cone, or perhaps another less conventional ice cream delivery method? Let us know by sending an email, and we’ll be sure to share our favorites right here on the Crane’s Mill Blog!
