  Charlottesville Guided Tour: Nestled amid the foothills of the magnificent Blue Ridge Mountains, Charlottesville offers a thriving community and is a vanguard of arts and culture. Beyond city limits, rolling hills and family farms compliment city life with more than 700 square miles of vibrant natural beauty, including Shenandoah National Park. Entrepreneurial spirits shape life here, dating back to the area’s most famous son, Thomas Jefferson. Walk in the footsteps of Thomas Jefferson, James Monroe, James Madison, Daniel Boone and Patrick Henry. Listen and learn as your guide weaves a tapestry of colorful people, momentous events and long forgotten anecdotes.

  Monticello-Guided Tour: Located on a mountain top, this magnificent estate is one of the most beautiful plantation homes in the country. Thomas Jefferson’s architectural masterpiece, his home for over 40 years until his death on July 4, 1826, is considered one of Virginia’s most impressive sights. It is the only house in the U.S. on the World Heritage List of International Treasures. In addition to an impressive interior, the gardens have been restored to original appearance. Enjoy an introductory film, “Thomas Jefferson’s World,” at the visitor’s center followed by a guided tour of house.

  Michie Tavern: Discovered by a Scotsman in the late 1700’s, the tavern welcomed travelers for more than 200 years. Wait staff in period attire serve bountiful homemade southern fare based on recipes from the period. Experience the tavern’s past through a historical journey that recreates 18th century life.

Fralin Museum of Art at UVA: This museum features special exhibits from around the world that showcase work from ancient to contemporary times. The permanent collection consists of approximately 13,000 objects, highlighting European & American paintings, photography, works on paper, African and American Indian art. The special exhibits include “Joseph Cornell and Surrealism”, which showcases work by this American pioneer of collage, montage & assemblage art from the 1930s and 1940s; and “Reflections & Undercurrents”, an exhibit of work by American etcher Ernest David Roth that was influenced by the Italian city of Venice.

Ash Lawn-Highland– Home of James Monroe: Enjoy a guided tour of Ash Lawn-Highland, home of James Monroe, the fifth president of the United States. His neighbor Thomas Jefferson convinced the Monroes to live here to create a “society to our taste”, personally selected the site and sent his gardeners to plant orchards. This “cabin castle” overlooks the Blue Ridge Mountains and retains the feel of an early 1800s working plantation.

Montpelier – Home of James Madison: Take a guided tour of the 2,650 acre plantation that served as the lifelong home of James Madison, the fourth President of United States, father of the Constitution and architect of the Bill of Rights. Learn about the history of the home as well as the lives of James and Dolly, America’s “first” First Lady.

• Rollator walkers are welcome on this trip, and travelers who use one are encouraged to bring it for comfort and safety. Travelers must be able to independently get on and off the bus and handle the minimal-moderate amount of walking. There are places to sit down where walking is required.
• Travel protection/cancellation insurance must be purchased within 14 days of the date that you paid for the trip to insure full and proper coverage (coverage will not be affected by pre-existing medical conditions).
