Privacy and Ethics Statements

LSMNJ Code of Ethics and Business Integrity

To promote the privacy and safety of those we serve in New Jersey who hurt, are in need, and have limited choices, Lutheran Social Ministries of New Jersey (LSMNJ) is committed to abiding by local, state and federal laws and to meeting or exceeding ethical standards. LSMNJ has established a broad-based Corporate Compliance Program to keep that commitment. As a participant in the Peace Church Compliance Program, a nationwide group of faith-based, nonprofit long term care organizations dedicated to corporate compliance, LSMNJ has established a “Code of Ethics & Business Integrity” that extends to every LSMNJ program and facility. The scope of the LSMNJ Corporate Compliance Program encompasses a wide range of health and community issues, including the prevention of fraud and abuse, assurance of privacy, security of protected client information, as well as investigation and resolution of possible regulatory non-compliance.

Questions about the LSMNJ Corporate Compliance Program or concerns regarding our business practices may be submitted by calling our Compliance Hotline at 1-800-211-2713. All complaints/concerns will be promptly investigated.

Privacy Practices

A number of LSMNJ's affiliates are considered "Covered Entities" under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996, commonly known as HIPAA. As such, those affilates are required to notify residents of how their medical information may be used and disclosed, and how residents may access their medical information, in a "Notice of Privacy Practices". We have posted on this website a Notice of Privacy Practices for each of our covered Entities.

LSMNJ is considered a "Business Associate" under HIPAA because its services to the Covered Entities may involve residents' medical information. Like the Covered Entities, LSMNJ also protects the privacy and security of residents' medical information by adhering to federal and state law as well as its specific privacy and security commitments to the Covered Entities.
